Chaukhi mountains name and location

Chaukhi mountain range located on the eastern part of the Caucasus mountains near the peak Mount Kazbek region among Khevi and Khevsureti regions. Chaukhi is big rocky massive with 14 Summits. There are summits named, mount Tikanadze, mount Takaishvili, mount Rcheulishvili, mount Bursatchiri, mount Tsu, mount Pirosmani, mount Agmashenebeli, mount Vazha-Pshavela, Mount Asatiani, mount Kameruni, mount Leonidze, Mount Javakhishvili etc. Most of the mountain names n honour of Georgian poets, writers and artists.

Sightseeing, you will meet on your way (Military road Georgia): Small town Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia until VI century, church Svetitskhoveli; the church Jvary, built-in the century; Ananury church; Jvary pass 2395 m; Stephantsminda and mount Kazbek view; Old village Juta.

Chaukhi mountains climbing routes

Technical difficulties of these region mountains are from easiest to most difficult. It is one of the favourite places for Georgian climbers. Also, it is one of the best places to organize climbing courses. There are about 50 different routes for climbing. The Base camp is located at 2550 meter on grassland, between 2 rivers, with beautiful views. 

The best time to climb Chaukhi mountains

The best time to climb the Chaukhi mountains is from the second half of June to the end of September. We offer climbing tours for the summer, and we also provide Ski mountaineering tours in Chaukhi region from the second part of February till the end of May. We would say that Chaukhi is one of the best places for ski mountaineering with fantastic snow condition and a lot of couloirs.




Day 1 - Meeting at the airport and transfer to hotel in Tbilisi city center. (- / - / - )
Day 2Tbilisi - Juta - Camp at 2500 meter above sea level. After breakfast, we will drive to the village of Juta. Distance is 170 km and driving duration of about 3 hours.  From Juta, we will start walking to the camp and walking time for about 2 hours.

Day 3 - Wake up at 6 a.m. Breakfast. Ascents of the mount Rcheulishvili, 3550m, (Grade 1A UIAA). Overnights in tents. (Breakfast / Lunch-box / Dinner)
Day 4 - Wake up at 6 a.m. Breakfast. Ascents of the Mount Javakhishvili, 3720m, (Grade 3A UIAA). Overnights in tents. (Breakfast / Lunch-box / Dinner)
Day 5 - Wake up at 6 a.m. Breakfast. Ascents of the Mount Asatiani, 3800m, (Grade 4A UIAA). Overnights in tents. (Breakfast / Lunch-box / Dinner)
Day 6 - Wake up at 10 a.m. Breakfast. Departure to Tbilisi. Dinner in Tbilisi traditional restaurant. Overnights in a hotel in Tbilisi city centre.(Breakfast / Lunch / - )
Day 7 - Transfer to the Airport. (Breakfast / - / - )



  • Transfer from and to the airport.
  • All transportation during the tour. Transfer, Tbilisi - Village Juta -Tbilisi.
  • Two nights hotel In Tbilisi.
  • Four nights in tents in the base camp. Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are included.
  • Horses for luggage from the village to the base camp. Horses will carry all products and general equipment like ropes, pitons etc.
  • English and Russian speaking mountain guide or guides (depends on how many people will be in the group) for the whole tour.
